Meet Fish

Meet Fish

7/24/2017

Today, Fish starts a new life at Animal Place. Raised for his flesh as part of a Future Farmers of America (FFA) project, Fish’s student caregiver decided she wanted something different for the 1-yr-old sheep. Local activist Chelsea Pinkham offered the student a unique opportunity – instead of sending Fish to slaughter, she could send Fish to sanctuary. The student enthusiastically said yes, and we agreed to take him in. Here is his journey…we cannot wait to meet him! Fish will become an ambassador for all the other FFA and 4H “animal projects” who are not as lucky.

7:00 am: Volunteer Lori Woods meets Chelsea at a private home where Fish has been housed since his release from a local southern California fair. Load-up goes smoothly and Fish is now on his way to Grass Valley, where he will spend the remainder of his life!

11:20 am: Volunteer driver Lori Woods and companion Fish have made it through Los Angeles traffic and are currently in the Central Valley headed north! Lori says, “Fish is doing well, REALLY likes to have humans next to him.”

1:22 pm: Did you know a lot of county fairs are “terminal” fairs for the animals? Meaning even if a student wanted to send their animal to sanctuary, they are not even allowed to? Lucky for Fish, the fair he was located at is not terminal and if students have “ownership” of their animal, they are allowed to determine their fate at the end.

2:45 pm: Just chewing some cud!

8:05 pm: Fish arrived to Animal Place safe and sound!
