Do you believe in magic?
You will now! I’ve included a very special map. When you look at it, you’ll be magically transported right here to Animal Place. You’ll see and feel your support in action helping senior animals, who you’ll meet below.
Because you’ve supported the animals here at the sanctuary, I thought the stories of the individuals below would inspire you! Each individual is a testament to the power a safe haven can provide.

Each morning, Babe the senior cow, waits (im)patiently for her morning apple. Time is of the essence. If I don’t get to Babe’s pasture quick enough, I will hear about it! At 24 years old, Babe believes prompt service is of great importance. I’m sure you’ll agree that Babe deserves it!
Several years ago, Babe and 15 other cows needed help. Their elderly caregiver had fallen ill and could no longer care for them. Her family believed the only option was to send the herd to slaughter. We could not take them all in. We found forever homes for all but two of the cows. The two oldest cows came to Animal Place, where they soon gave birth to healthy boys.
If you look at the map, you can see Babe out in her pasture (wearing a crown, of course). Can you imagine yourself standing next to her, apple in hand? Of course, this is no ordinary apple. Pressed neatly inside the apple is a pill that provides Babe with twenty-four hours of pain relief.
So I know you can’t physically be here to feed Babe her apple and pain med daily…but guess what? We can do that for you. ♥️
As you can imagine, sanctuaries are unique in the “farm” animal world. While a farm often sends an animal to slaughter at a young age, sanctuaries provide life-long care well into an animal’s golden years.
That means we often have more senior animals in need of ongoing palliative care. Did you know
It’s true! And that’s why I come to you for help!
Prudence the goat is one of those seniors. On the map, you can see her strolling out of the barn, on her way to elder-bestie Vincent. At age 17, she is the oldest goat at the sanctuary! And as the oldest, she gets special treatment.
But that wasn’t always the case. Prudence was found as a stray, ending up at an animal shelter. No one wanted her, so we took her into our adoption program. We thought she found her forever home but after three years, the adopter no longer wanted Prudence. Isn’t that heartbreaking? Our policy is always to take back animals we adopt out, so they always have a back-up home.
Today, Prudence is queen of the herd. Vincent, a goat rescued after being mauled by dogs, loves her deeply. Everyone in the herd treats Prudence with the kindness and respect she deserves.
I wish I had all the space and time to share with you the stories of every single senior animal at the sanctuary. But there are too many. Please read these short profiles of Jujube and Mishka, so you can see exactly who your gift helps!
30-yr-old Jujube was being given away for free on Craigslist. She is now best friends with Jellybean, another rescued donkey. Jujube needs a lot of hoof care and pain management as an older donkey.
14-yr-old Mishka was rescued as a piglet. He and his brother Ivan were exploited as part of a petting zoo. It’s common for petting zoos to put baby animals on display and then send them to slaughter when they get too large or old.
With so many seniors in dire need of special, intensive care, I call on you to help now! Pick your senior sanctuary friend to support, or support them all. No matter your gift – large or small – you provide a senior animal the love they need.
Will you help me ensure each senior animal here receives the care they so deserve?
Without you, there is no us.
With compassion,
Meg Aston
Animal Care Director
